ONTARIO TOURISM INVESTMENT CLIMATE ANALYSIS

In the spring of 2008, the Government of Ontario initiated a process to establish a clearer path for tourism in the Province. Dubbed the Ontario Tourism Competitiveness Study and led by former Minister of Finance Greg Sorbara, the study sought to engage Ontario as a whole - not just the tourism industry - in a process to consider the future of tourism in Ontario as well as to raise the tourism industry's profile and to support the growth and long-term viability of this industry in the Province.

As one of the key external research reports completed in support of the Sorbara study, HLT completed an analysis of the investment climate in Ontario. The analysis addressed trends affecting the tourism investment climate within Ontario, Canada and North America, analyzed best practices in attracting tourism investment in other jurisdictions, provided clarity around the
decision-making process employed by tourism investors of all sizes and recommended methods to realize tourism growth opportunities.
