OTTAWA CONVENTION CENTRE

Management of the Ottawa Convention Centre has pursued an expansion plan for many years. Following changes at the Board and senior management level, HLT was engaged to establish a business case for expansion and support the negotiating teams deliberating with various levels of government for financial support. Following confirmation that redevelopment on the same site was preferred, the former Ottawa Congress Centre was demolished in 2009 and construction on a new structure, scheduled to open in April 2011, commenced.

In addition to assisting the Board and Board advisors in developing the business case, HLT has more recently worked with the Ottawa Convention Centre and Ottawa Tourism in developing a strategic plan for Meeting, Convention and Incentive Travel marketing in Ottawa.

HLT has played a significant role in assessing demand for convention (and related) venues on both the local and regional level. In 2008, HLT completed an assessment of the Ontario convention marketplace for the Ministry of Tourism.
