Tourism Industry Association Ontario (2014)
The Tourism Industry Association of Ontario engaged HLT to conduct a province-wide consultation process designed to:
- Engage tourism industry partners to identify priority recommendations, and to address the current needs and goals, in order to grow the tourism industry in Ontario over the next three to five years.
- Support recognition of the tourism industry for its contribution to Ontario’s economy and workforce.
The consultation focused on five priority areas: leadership, investment, marketing, product/ experience development as well as the regional tourism delivery structure.
HLT facilitated a focused, province-wide discussion on these five priorities including the conduct of sixteen half-day workshops, one in each tourism area as well as two in the greater Toronto area. A separate session was undertaken with representatives of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, other Ontario ministries and several tourism-related agencies. HLT also conducted an e-survey designed to gather additional insights through an anonymous and confidential process. HLT then synthesized all input and developed recommendations via an interactive process among the TIAO Board.
The resulting report was broadly distributed throughout the Ontario tourism industry and was presented at the kick-off session at the 2014 Ontario Tourism Summit.
